Areva NP has been contracted to upgrade instrumentation and control systems at Calvert Cliffs 1&2 in Lusby, Maryland. The reactors, operated by US utility Exelon are 920MW pressurised water reactors.

Areva will work with Lockheed Martin to design, manufacture and assemble the non-digital Engineering Safety Features Actuation System, which initiates and controls safety systems that remove heat from the reactor. The scope of the contract include completion of factory acceptance testing, qualification and delivery to the site. The ESFAS is an analogue triple modular, redundant system.
