Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said Turkey may ask Russia for help in building a third NPP.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that in addition to the nuclear power plants that are expected to be opened in Akkuyu and Sinop, they are working on a third power plant.

Erdogan, who participated in the joint live broadcast of A Para, A Haber, ATV and A News, did not give any direct information about this plant, but said, "Our friends are working on it."

He said that one unit at Akkuyu NPP will be opened at the end of 2023 or at the beginning of 2024, and that the remaining three units would be opened later at regular intervals. He added that the nuclear power plant in Sinop will also have four units. ““Akkuyu will provide us with 4,800 megawatts of energy, as will Sinop. Each of these will provide 20% of our energy consumption.” Talks with Rosatom on Sinop are already underway. Erdogan said Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev had said that Sinop is an "extremely attractive" proposition for the construction of a four-unit nuclear power plant.

“Our friends are working on Akkuyu, Sinop, and a third plant in a different site,” he said.
