Swedish state-owned utility Vattenfall has secured a deal with Westinghouse Electric and Framatome. The deal is for the long-term supply of nuclear fuel to its five nuclear reactors at the Forsmark and Ringhals power plants in Sweden, from 2024 onwards.

In a statement issued by Vattenfall, Ove Nilsson, head of nuclear fuel said “We are very satisfied to continue our cooperation with two of our trusted suppliers. These agreements are in line with our strategy to be independent of individual suppliers and countries. The evaluation and decision are based on technical and commercial criteria, as well as Vattenfall’s ambitious focus on sustainability in the supply chain.”

In 2016 Vattenfall signed a long-term fuel supply contract with Russia’s TVEL. However, in February following Russia's invasion of Ukraine the utility announced that it was stopping planned deliveries from Russia to its nuclear power plants until further notice.
