UK-based ITI announced it has been chosen to support the next stages of the safe clean up and demolition at the Dounreay nuclear site, on the north coast of Scotland.

ITI, a systems integrator has been awarded a framework agreement to provide Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Design Services to Dounreay Site Restoration Limited (DSRL), the site licence company responsible for the clean-up and demolition of Britain’s former centre of fast reactor research and development.

As a largely experimental facility, clean up and demolition offers a unique challenge to the organisations involved in the ongoing project, but it is one that ITI said it is well equipped for thanks to its history of delivering safe, secure and innovative safety and control solutions to the nuclear sector.

“ITI has previously supported DSRL with vital work to maintain operations and we are now delighted to support them once again through this latest phase in the lifecycle of the site. Our teams understand the challenges faced by DSRL in transitioning from a fast reactor research site to Scotland’s largest nuclear clean-up and decommissioning project, and we’re looking forward to working within the local community at Dounreay and using our experience, innovation and skills to support DSRL’s mission,” explained Jean Isherwood, Proposals Manager at ITI.

ITI said its delivery team, which will be based primarily out of its Scottish offices in Glasgow and Aberdeen, but supported by engineering teams across the UK.

Jean added: “The tendering process was understandably thorough and we’re extremely proud to have been chosen by DSRL for this framework. We’re looking forward to contributing to the return of the site to a safe condition for future generations.”
