The JET facility operated by UKAEA near Oxford, England. The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority has signed a multimillion-pound agreement to aid the development of fusion energy.

The agreement was signed with nine engineering companies and will allow UKAEA to call on their expertise for research into the development of nuclear fusion energy and its related technologies.

A statement said UKAEA will be able to call upon experts “as and when needed” to undertake a range of projects in areas such as mechanical engineering, process engineering, computer-based modelling and electrical, control and instrumentation.

The companies which are part of the agreement are: Assystem, DBD, Rolls-Royce, Jacobs, Frazer Nash, Atkins, IDOM, Mott MacDonald, and M5tec.

UKAEA is responsible for leading the commercial development of fusion power and related technology. UKAEA manages the UK fusion programme at Culham Centre for Fusion Energy near Oxford.
