According to the statement, forging will take approximately nine months, after which the rotor will be transported to a GE Steam Power factory in France’s Belfort to be machined.

The generator rotor weighs 240 tonnes, is 14 metres long, and has a two-metre diameter.

GE Steam Power will also supply the turbine generator set for Hanhikivi, based on its modular Arabelle technology, Fennovoima said

In 2016, the plant’s supplier RAOS Project and GE signed a contract for delivery of the equipment, which will be produced and assembled mainly in France, said Fennovoima.

According to the company, the design and licensing of other main components for the Hanhikivi-1 nuclear power plant is underway, with Finnish regulator Stuk having approved the first part of the reactor pressure vessel construction plan for the manufacture of forgings.

Hanhikivi-1 will have a Russian Generation III+ 1,200 MW VVER unit, developed by OKB Gidropress, a Rosatom subsidiary.

According to the latest schedule, Fennovima expects Hanhikivi-1 to be ready for startup in 2028.
