Russia and Rwanda have signed an agreement to build a nuclear science and technologies centre in the African country, state nuclear corporation Rosatom said.

The agreement was signed by Rosatom’s director-general Alexei Likhachev and Rwanda’s minister of infrastructure Claver Gatete during the Russia-Africa summit in Sochi.

Rosatom said the nuclear centre will be a platform for a range of scientific research and practical applications of nuclear technologies, including the production of radioisotopes for industry, agriculture and healthcare.

According to Rosatom, the research centre will host a 10-MW water-cooled reactor and a number of laboratories.
